Spring Campaign Update -
We Need Your Help NOW to Reach Our Goal!

THANK YOU to our generous Monte Vista parents who have already donated enough to fund more than 12 class sections! If you were not able to make a contribution during our Fall Campaign during Registration, now is your chance to show your support for Monte Vista, and most importantly your student!

Our goal is to fund 20 class sections for the 2012 / 2013 school year.  We still need to raise funds for 8 more sections. Look for our peach-colored Letter and Donation Form you received in the mail from Academic Boosters last month! Can’t find it? Click here to write a check or to make a donation on-line.

Please send in your donation by June 1, 2012 so Academic Boosters can purchase much needed class sections for the 2012 / 2013 school year. To reach this goal, WE NEED ALL FAMILIES to make a donation. We ask $350 per student, however, any amount is welcomed.

MV Academic Excellence Boosted by Parent Donations

While the state’s educational funding is uncertain, one thing is clear; cuts in the last four years have taken their toll on Monte Vista, and these reductions are not likely to be restored. These include:
  • All 9th grade English and Math classes have lost funding resulting in class size increasing from an average of 20 to 26 students.
  • Monte Vista must now fund 50% of its Regional Occupation Program (ROP) classes. These include Biotechnology, Engineering, AP Computer Science, Architectural Design, Robotics, AP Environmental Science, Photography, Journalism, Sports Medicine, Culinary, and more.
  • Counselors have been reduced to a ratio of 500 students per 1 counselor.
  • German Language classes, Work Experience classes, and extra sections for some Advanced Placement (AP) classes had to be cut this year. The administration was unable to staff partially full classes because current funding levels dictate up to 36 or more students per class.
Despite all this, Monte Vista continues to excel and is ranked in the top 3 percent of all high schools statewide. The California Business for Education Excellence recognized Monte Vista on its Honor Roll for 2010-2011. The key to this success is a rich tradition of parent and community support.

Monte Vista parents funded 18 class sections this year through Academic Boosters, benefiting ALL students by reducing class size. The administration was able to add more classes such as English, Math, Chemistry, and Fine Arts based on student need, in addition to one section for counseling.

Academic Boosters, run by parent volunteers, donates 97% of its funds for class sections.  Academic Boosters also sponsors Test Preparation Classes for college entrance tests (SAT, ACT), College Night, and Honor Roll Student Recognition. Monthly meetings provide a forum for parents and the administration to share academic information and concerns.

Academic Boosters’ goal for 2012 is to fund 20 class sections. Monte Vista needs, and has come to rely on, these additional classes to maintain its academic excellence. We kindly ask all families to make a donation. We suggest $350 per student; however, ANY DONATION is welcome. Your donation will be used tooffset past funding cuts as well as the additional $370 per student cuts anticipated this year should the state’s budget not pass.

Academic Boosters must receive your donation by June 1, 2012. Although donations are accepted at fall registration, Boosters must make a funding commitment to the administration by June 1st. Once our commitment is made, no new classes can be added. Please join other concerned parents by making any donation you can. Prefer to donate on-line?
